Work On Self

In my last relection “You Were Never Taught This, I shared some thoughts on the weight of expectations. About the expectations we place on ourselves, the ones placed upon us by society, and the quiet, unspoken pressures that so many of us carry without questioning.

Many of us believe we’re supposed to be able to handle everything on our own. That we should be able to navigate relationships, careers, parenting, friendships, and all of life’s complexities without help. That needing guidance, needing space to reflect, needing support means we’re lacking in some way.

But that is not the truth.

The truth is, doing the inner work, getting clear on who we are, what we value, what we need, is what allows us to show up fully and authentically in every aspect of our lives. It’s not about self-indulgence. It’s not selfish. It’s necessary. Because when we’re disconnected from ourselves, we end up disconnected from the people and the life we’re trying to build.

When you begin to deeply understand yourself, everything shifts. You start to see how all the pieces of your life are interconnected. Why certain relationships feel unbalanced. Why your energy feels drained. Why joy sometimes feels just out of reach. You begin to recognize the patterns that have kept you stuck and the small shifts that will create real, lasting change.

And the most powerful part? Doing this work doesn’t just impact you, it transforms how you show up in your relationships. It allows you to love with more depth, to communicate with more clarity, to set boundaries without guilt, to build meaningful connections that are rooted in something real.

I invite you to explore these ideas further with a Loving-Kindness Meditation that will guide you through the concept of love languages and how they can support deeper self-awareness. I also invite you to sit with these questions:

  • What would change if I stopped seeing self-awareness and self-work as optional and instead saw it as the foundation of everything else?

  • Where in my life am I giving more energy than I am receiving?

  • What parts of me have I ignored or silenced in order to meet expectations, either my own or someone else’s?

This kind of reflection isn’t always easy. It requires honesty, curiosity, and a willingness to look inward. But when you do, you start to build a life that feels aligned, balanced, and deeply fulfilling, not just for yourself but for the people you love.

If this is something you’re ready to explore more deeply, I’d love to support you. Whether it’s through coaching, sound healing, or a community event, I’m here for you.

Because the work you do on Self? It’s the work that changes everything.

With care,
Jessica
